Advocates for low-income clients, the Civil Justice Clinic addresses various civil cases, focusing on housing, family, consumer law, probate, bankruptcy, unemployment compensation, social security, SSI disability benefits, and other public benefits. Under faculty supervision, students actively engage in cases such as defending eviction actions, assisting tenants with repairs, litigating to recover security deposits, opposing illegal rent increases, and handling cases related to real estate, home repair, car repair, or purchase scams, divorce, custody, alimony, domestic violence, child support, and social security disability. Students undertake the entire legal process, including client interviews, negotiations, drafting legal documents, and conducting depositions and trials. Additionally, the clinic periodically undertakes broader law reform and impact advocacy initiatives on systemic issues within civil poverty law.

Provides group homes the support of trained staff and meet the needs of individuals with a wide range of challenges. Efforts to secure quality of life for all individuals who find their home at SCARC are guided by plans comprised of carefully crafted, personalized goals and objectives. Individuals participate in the care of their home and many other activities designed to foster a sense of warmth, stability, and friendship among housemates.

Assists pregnant women and their families through weekly 90-minute home visits and bi-weekly group socialization events. Home Visitors also assist families in securing healthcare services for both the mother and infant, as well as childcare service after the baby is born.    

Investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect and, if necessary, arranges for the child's protection and the family's treatment. Services include: child protection, case management, foster care, adoption, and family supports and services through community providers.

Assists men and women struggling with coping and self-sufficiency through spiritual, social, and emotional support. Offering residential housing, work, and group and individual therapy, the center prepares participants for re-entry into society and employment. A minimum six-month commitment is necessary to break negative patterns and instill positive life choices, fostering productivity and community integration.

Connects people with opportunities to serve and operating model volunteer programs. Aims to build capacity for effective volunteering, and participate in strategic partnerships to meet community needs.

Provides food to the homeless who live in the woods or streets and to area motels and offers referrals to other service agencies for problems with alcohol and drugs, or medical and mental health care or outpatient services and PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) program.

Provides primary care including adult medicine, family planning, HIV testing and PrEP, pediatrics, women's health, substance use disorder/addiction treatment, and vaccinations. Patients needing specialized or behavioral services can be referred to another doctor that best fits their needs.

Assists custodial parents in locating an absent parent, establishing paternity, obtaining and enforcing court orders for child support payments. Helps with the establishment and enforcement of out-of-state child support orders.  

Provides clothing, furniture, household goods, sporting equipment, books, electronics, and other items to the community at low cost All purchases directly fund rehabilitation programs. Also provides work therapy for individuals to help regain self-esteem and develop vocational skills.

Delivers nutrition and breastfeeding education, nutritious foods, and enhanced access to regular health care and social services for low and moderate-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, as well as young children with or at risk of nutrition-related health problems. The service actively promotes and supports exclusive breastfeeding, conducts health and nutrition screenings, facilitates referrals to necessary health care and community services, and offers personalized nutrition/health counseling through individual and peer/group sessions. Additionally, the program issues food vouchers containing essential nutrients to supplement deficient or lacking diets.     

Provides a full day summer camp program for children and teens ages 5 through 13. Activities include weekly trips, recreation, educational activities, swimming, athletics, computer instruction, and nutrition. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack included.

Offers a day program for people who have significant intellectual/developmental disabilities. The center works with participants to develop personal awareness, social and work skills, as well as to further each individual's capacity for self-determination and decision making. 

Provides cooling vests and accessories for individuals diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). A cooling vest is a lightweight garment that contains insulated pockets which hold small ice packs that help to cool the body.

Provides a short-term group home for adolescents, ages 13 up to 17, whose families are experiencing a crisis. The home provides food, clothing, counseling, health care and education. The goal is to reunite youth with their families; when that isn’t possible, the group home help residents find alternate stable homes where they are able to thrive.

Offers a full range of services for jobseekers, including career counseling, job training, resume and interview support, and re-employment orientation. On-site resources include public computers, internet access, a career resource room, and interview spaces. Additional offerings such as ESL classes, HSE prep, Jersey Job Club workshops, and tuition waivers help guide your path to employment success.

Provides individuals with the support needed to prevent psychiatric hospitalization and improve functioning in the community utilizing principles of wellness and recovery with peer support systems. Services include substance abuse/addiction services, group and individual sessions, psychiatric support, case management, daily living skills groups, medication monitoring, and pre-vocational training.

Provides low-cost reproductive health services, education, and advocacy. Services include: gynecologic exams, cancer screenings, family planning, STD and STI screening, pregnancy testing, medical abortion referrals, and midlife counseling.

Assists adults with disabilities to connect with integrated employment opportunities in their communities. Also, assists Middle and High School students in their preparation and transition to adult life.

Provides individualized counseling and treatment plans for various mental health-related issues. Counseling is available for: anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, PTSD, bereavement, parenting, divorce, life transitions, and school- or work-related issues. Appointments are available both in-person and virtually. Also provides medication management services.
