Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME) and training is a collaborative course through which people with diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify their behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions. The course incorporates the needs, goals, and life experiences of the person with diabetes and is guided by evidence-based standards. DSME can be conducted on an individual and/or group basis, and is facilitated by a licensed health professional. The course covers topics such as: - Diabetes disease process & treatment options - Incorporating nutrition management, physical activity & utilizing medications - Monitoring blood glucose & using results to improve control - Preventing, detecting & treating acute & chronic complications - Goal setting and problem solving - Integrating psychosocial adjustment - Preconception care and management during pregnancy (if applicable)

Accepts donations of cars, trucks, recreational vehicles, and boats on trailers from individuals which are sold at public auction. Proceeds are used to fund other Volunteers of America programs.

Assists applicants with various benefits including retirement, disability, survivors, SSI, and Medicare. Applicants should apply for retirement benefits at least 3 months before retiring, and disability payments are for those with severe impairments hindering work or leading to death. Eligibility for disability under SSI depends on work history and financial resources. A replacement Social Security card can also be obtained in-office. Check the website for online services.

Enabling seniors, aged 60 and older, to stay home while requiring nursing facility-level care, this state program offers services like homemaker and home health care, case management, respite care, home modification, special medical equipment, and more. Eligibility criteria include ineligibility for Medicaid and Medicaid waiver programs, along with resources not exceeding $40,000 for an individual or $60,000 for a couple. Participants contribute to the cost on a sliding scale based on their income. 

Provides assistance with applying for health coverage. Trained and certified staff members can help individual consumers understand health coverage options, complete eligibility forms, and enroll in a plan through the health insurance marketplace. 

Empowering individuals with disabilities, this program connects them to ongoing opportunities and activities in their local community, fostering physical and personal successes. Participants at the Occupational Training Center (OTC) experience a sense of pride and accomplishment, engaging in learning opportunities associated with community integration and becoming valued members of their neighborhood through active community involvement.

Provides adults ages 21 and older with developmental disabilities who need a daily program of activities to develop skills in adaptive living, self-help, and personal awareness. The program offers on-site and off-site community-based activities to clients and assists them with finding employment opportunities and/or volunteer positions for those who express a desire to either work or volunteer in the community.    

Assists newly blind individuals adjust to vision loss, and promotes the full participation and integration of blind people in local communities. Programs assist at both the national and state level.

Assists veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses in finding employment. Connects with American businesses to create economic opportunity.

Provides individual case management plans for residents. Referrals include: job training; food; legal assistance; and mental health, alcohol, and drug abuse counseling.

Offers intensive treatment programs for individuals who were previously hospitalized or are at-risk of psychiatric hospitalization. Services include: individual, group, and family therapy; individual counseling; family support groups; MICA groups; skill building activities; creative and recreational activities; medical assessments; and vocational rehabilitation services. Specialized programs for seniors are also available.    

Provides an intensive outpatient and a counseling program for children affected by domestic violence and their non-offending parents. Services includes art, drama, and play therapy, case management, family counseling, parent empowerment, and transportation.

Delivers a nutritionally-balanced meal and assurance check each weekday to home-bound seniors. Two cold meals for weekend consumption are provided for participants on Fridays.

Provides technical assistance, coaching, and modeling to early childhood educators in quality improvement initiatives like Grow NJ Kids. Services encompass community events, webinars, networking meetings, peer learning sessions, and training.

Provides weekly pre-packaged groceries and hot meals to individuals in need of emergency food assistance.

Provides emergency food packages to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

Serves a hot meal to individuals and families in need within the community every Monday and Wednesday.

Provides free, confidential, and non-judgmental pregnancy support services that offer emotional support, information, and practical assistance to individuals facing unplanned pregnancies. Connects individuals to pregnancy testing, referrals for medical care, housing, legal and financial resources, counseling, and community services; supplies maternity and baby items; and delivers ongoing support before and after birth to help individuals develop safe and realistic plans for themselves and their children.

Treats conditions affecting individuals' ability to complete daily living skills and become more independent.
