Eligibility
Prospective homebuyers must meet the following requirements to be eligible for assistance. Have not owned a home in the last three (3) years, be a qualified low-income household, property must be purchased within Mercer County (excludes the City of Trenton, which receives independent HOME funds), be the owner of the property after purchase, occupy the property as their principal residence after the purchase, attend certified housing counseling certificate course, must be a United States citizen or legal resident, single parent and displaced homemakers may be eligible for the program, despite not meeting all criteria listed above.

Application process
Applicants can download an application and must submit all preliminary applications to the Mercer County Housing Office. Homebuyer education certificate is required.

Fees
Assistance will not need to be repaid as long as the homeowner remains in the home for at least 6 years. Call for more information.

Provides no more than 2% down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible residents of Mercer County who are first time homebuyers (Residents of Trenton are not included). Total assistance will not exceed $7000. First Time Homebuyer Program
