Eligibility

Open to anyone with applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:
  • Purchasing their first home, and has not owned a home in the last 3 years
  • Minimum credit score of 640
  • No bankruptcies or repossessions
  • Minimum savings of $1500
  • Must attend Golden Neighborhoods Homeownership pre-purchase training
  • Must not enter into a contract of sale prior to receiving an eligibility certificate from the City of Jersey City
  • Housing must be a 1-4 family home or condominium, with compliance to Lead Based Paint Standards and local Housing Standards
  • Homeowner must remain in home for at least 10 years
  • HUD foreclosures, short sales, REO's and Handyman specials are not allowed
  • Preference will be given to individuals and families who live in Jersey City

Completed application/registration forms, financial statements, income tax return, proof of assets, proof of children's ages, proof of income eligibility, proof of school acceptance or attendance, rent receipts

Fees

None. Down payment assistance can be for up to 10% of the purchase price of the home, with a maximum subsidy of $40,000.
